10 Rules to Avoid a Car Crash Interview

You should realise that your CV is looked at for between 6 & 8 seconds , yes seconds so as a result it is important that you have used the key words in the job description are in your CV.

Organisations that use technology to screen CV's result in 80% of CVs being rejected because the key words and skills required are not in the CV.

Some organisations can receive over 300 applications per job advertised so it is crucial you have the key words and key skills clearly outlined in your CV.


Rule 1. Remain Calm and Embrace your Nerves


Remember if you have an interview on line on Tuesday that is the day Microsoft like to land all their updates and patches so your computer may need to do an update so don't sign on 10 minutes before the interview time.


Rule 2. Preparation is Key.


Always use STAR method to answer questions.

Use technology like Gemni to help you master the interview or if you have LinkedIn premium the AI feature that can can put you through your interview paces and give you feedback on your answers.


Rule 3. Understand The Role.


Do a deep dive into the role by reading the job description and really understanding the skills required for the job and also specifically the skills required for the person applying.

You can talk to the Hiring team in the organisation and the Recruiter in the agency.


Rule 4. Understand the Hiring Process


Be aware of how many rounds of interviews , the format of the questions and this will allow you to be able to prepare effectively and know what to expect.

If you do this correctly you will show you are proactive and have a strong interest in the job and the organisation.


Rule 5. Understand the Values of the organisation.


Check out their website and be able to state you know what they are doing in the world.


Rule 6. Seek Clarification & Never Assume


If you do not understand the question ask for clarification the interviewer will be glad to assist. Please slow down and listen to the hits the interviewer may give you as it will help you give structured answers .


Rule 7. Be Engaged in Conversation


Think about how you respond slow down and think of your response. Be aware of how you sit in the interview , your body language and what you are doing with your hands .

Balance the How and What in all your answers.


Rule 8. Never Bull-Shit - if you don't know you don't know


Be honest and don't make things up


Rule 9. Always have questions to ask them at end of the Interview

Rule 10. Don't talk yourself out of the role.


The truth is getting an interview shows the organisation already likes whet they see about you in your CV and skills. So you kind of already have the role and the interview decides if you get to keep it.
