I didn't learn about stress from a textbook or a weekend seminar. I learned it the hard way, by spending years in high pressure roles where the expectation was to always be "on." I remember sitting in my car before walking into a building, taking deep breaths just to settle the shaking in my hands. I thought that being stressed was just the price I had to pay for being successful and responsible. I thought if I just worked harder, the anxiety would eventually go away.


But it didn't go away. It only got louder. It took a long time for me to realize that more work was not the answer. Realizing that I needed a different approach was the turning point. After years of navigating these pressures and eventually coaching hundreds of professionals through them, as Brian Kennedy often emphasizes, I discovered that managing stress isn't about avoiding work.
